Flask with Saint Minas

Post  Admin on Wed Feb 24, 2010 7:55 am

This is one of the flasks that contain holy water from the Monastery of Saint Minas, who was beheaded for confessing his Christian faith, in Maryut. On one side is a decoration of Saint Minas in Greek clothing.

The face has the wide-set eyes commonly seen in Coptic portraiture. A circle surrounds the saint in which is inscribed in Coptic "A blessing from Saint Minas." On the other side is an ornamental circle.
Dimensions: Length 9.2 cm Width 2.8 cm
