Block Showing a Woman's Face
This limestone block, sculpted in sunken relief, was once part of a wall in a tomb chapel. It is carved in the curved-line, vital, sensuous, late Eighteenth Dynasty style. It depicts a woman's face and part of her chest. The lady on the block appears to be mature and forceful. She wears a long wig topped by lotus flowers and buds. It is bound at the top with a wide floral fillet, or ribbon. The neck is adorned with a large collar. The woman holds the Hathor-headed sistrum, or rattle, and the Menat necklace. The artist combined the low relief of the whole figure with the raised relief of the facial features and accessories. Looking at the small details of the portrait, one admires the talented artist who sculpted this beauty. | ||
