Big Jar with Christian Symbols

Post  Admin on Fri Oct 16, 2009 1:54 pm

This large jar, also called zeir in Arabic, has a drawing of two people and some ornamental shapes on the upper part only.

The lower part is devoid of any ornament and is divided into groups, each of which is inside an arch. One arch contains a fabulous animal, which seems to be an eagle or a peacock, the second contains a human face, and the third arch contains a trifoliate flower. The arches are connected by a number of lines.

Below them are other lines, some of which are straight while others are crooked. These ornaments are Christian symbols. The jar has four handles, some of which are broken.
