Bust of Amenemhat the Third in Priestly Costume
This is the upper part of a gray granite, larger than life-size statue of King Amenemhat the Third. It depicts the king as a high priest wearing the panther skin. The high cheekbones, wrinkled face, and bitter, pouted mouth identify the statue as belonging to the Twelfth Dynasty ruler, King Amenemhat the Third. This statue had been formerly attributed to a Hyksos king of the Seventeenth Dynasty. This statue portrays the king as standard-bearer for the first time. This depiction was frequently used in the later Ramesside period. | ||
