Chalice Lamp
This translucent alabaster lamp is in the form of a double chalice on a four-legged stand. It was found in the passage between the outer large shrine and the partition wall of the burial chamber of King Tutankhamun. It is flanked by figures of the god of eternity, Heh, squatting over a clump of papyrus. When the lamp is lit, the paintings on the outer surface of the inner chalice are visible through the translucent stone. These show the queen standing and presenting two long palm branches, symbols of an infinite number of years. | ||
